Leeds KDS was formed in 2010 by 1st Dan Peter Rogberg, previously at Oxford KDS, who worked hard to establish the club whilst working at Leeds University. When Peter returned to Sweden in 2012 the club was taken forward by Melanie Bowden with regular support from other black belts at the Keele and Newcastle clubs. The club stopped training for a period in 2013-14 due to Melanie's family commitments, but regular training started again Autumn 2014.
Melanie started training with the KDS in 1997 when she joined Cardiff University as a student. She was awarded her black belt in 2003 and became an assistant instructor at the Cardiff club. Melanie joined the Leeds club in 2010 after qualifying as an official KDS instructor.
As with all KDS instructors, Melanie is a full member of Sports Coach UK and has been through a full CRB check.
